
Dr Kate McSweeney was born in Brisbane. After graduating in 1984 from Griffith University with a degree in Science and a Graduate Teaching Diploma she taught Mathematics, Science and Computing to Senior level at Maryborough State High School.
In a career shift in 1988 she commenced work in the Mining and Steel industries in technical and sales roles for corporate companies such as BHP. In 1996 she completed a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science from the University of Sydney.
Seeking a further change in direction, in 1997 she commenced her medical degree at the University of Queensland, graduating in 2000.
She completed her hospital training and fellowship of General Practice in regional and North Queensland. During this time she worked as the relieving doctor in one doctor towns and indigenous communities and visited the Residential Aged Care Facilities in the various towns and cities she trained in.
Dr McSweeney has a long term and strong interest in Aged Care. She comes from a large family that has many nurses and has worked extensively in aged care as an assistant nurse during her adolescent and university years.
Dr Kate McSweeney is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine. She has a vibrant and long standing aged care practice, delivering services to a number of Residential Aged Care Facilities for over 5 years on the Gold and Tweed Coasts. Monique is a highly qualified, experienced and skilled Registered Nurse who coordinates chronic disease management and liaises with patients, families and nursing staff regularly to assist in delivering high quality care. She is well known and well regarded on the coast for her many years of community nursing work, having spent 17 years with Queensland Health in the specialised areas of renal medicine, adult respiratory nursing and adult community incontinence. She has been working in General Practice since 2002 providing older adult health support and chronic disease management in both community and Residential Aged Care.
